What is the Masters Tournament?

The Masters tournament is one of men’s golf’s four major championships — and the only one played at the same location every single year: Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Now in its 90th edition, the tournament is defined as much by its traditions as its competition. Chief among them is the Green Jacket, awarded to the winner and worn by some of the game’s most iconic champions, including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and most recently, Rory McIlroy.

The course itself is central to the tournament. Augusta National is one of the most difficult tests in golf, rewarding precision and punishing even slight mistakes. Its most famous stretch, Amen Corner — holes 11, 12, and 13 — has decided countless tournaments, due to high winds, water hazards, and narrow margins that can quickly change up the leaderboard. This tournament tests even the most seasoned, accomplished golf pros, often leading to an unexpected and thrilling end result.
