How to watch the Scary Movie movies in order
To watch the Scary Movie films in order just read on, and review the following list. The rundown is organized by year of release, and features every movie – or, every Scary Movie movie, as it were.
Scary Movie (2000)

The film that started it all introduces Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and her group of friends, Brenda (Regina Hall), Ray (Shawn Wayans), and Shorty (Marlon Wayans). After the gang covers up a hit-and-run, a masked killer stalks them.
Scary Movie (2000) leans heavily on references from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, recreating the familiar slasher scenes with exaggerated, hilarious twists. One moment, Cindy is running from a killer, and the next she’s engaged in an argument with him about the plot of the very film they’re in. The performances keep the laughs coming.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

The sequel trades the masked killer for a haunted house. Cindy (Anna Faris), Brenda (Regina Hall), Ray (Shawn Wayans), and Shorty (Marlon Wayans) join a group of college students for a weekend at Hell House, a creepy mansion being used for a university experiment on paranormal activity led by Professor Oldman (Tim Curry) and his assistant, Dwight (David Cross). Inside Hell House, the gang discovers possessed rooms, wandering ghosts, and more strangeness.
The second installment spoofs the likes of The Haunting and The Exorcist. One of the most infamous gags of Scary Movie 2 involves a ghost that develops an unexpectedly aggressive interest in the houseguests, stretching what would normally be jump-scare moments into awkward, over-the-top encounters.

Scary Movie 3 (2003)

In the third film, Cindy (Anna Faris) is entangled in a mystery involving a cursed videotape that kills anyone who watches it seven days later. At the same time, strange crop circles appear across rural America.
Cindy teams up with farmer Tom Logan (Charlie Sheen) to figure out what the tape means and why there is escalating alien activity. Sound familiar? It should: Scary Movie 3 riffs on the horror hits The Ring and Signs.

Scary Movie 4 (2006)

By the fourth film, the franchise has shifted toward large-scale disaster and sci-fi parody. Cindy (Anna Faris) now works as a caretaker. Then strange events begin to unfold in her neighborhood. The film pulls from War of the Worlds, The Grudge, and Saw.
Note: Scary Movie 4 is not currently streaming on Paramount+.
Scary Movie V (2013)

The fifth entry in the series, and a franchise outlier, Scary Movie V basically introduces us to an all-new cast and characters. In it, Jody (Ashley Tisdale) and Dan (Simon Rex) move into a home after taking custody of their nieces and nephews. Shortly after arriving in the neighborhood, the couple notice strange activity throughout the home – activity that’s captured primarily by security cameras installed around the house. Much of the story mimics the found-footage setup of Paranormal Activity. The film also mines gags from movies like Mama, Evil Dead, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Black Swan.
Note: Scary Movie 5 is not currently streaming on Paramount+.
Scary Movie (2026)
In the upcoming new film, Shorty (Marlon Wayans), Ray (Shawn Wayans), Cindy (Anna Faris), and Brenda (Regina Hall) – the Scary Movie franchise’s Core Four – are back, and on the run from a familiar-looking masked killer. Judging by the trailer, the Megan movies, the Smile movies, Sinners, and Wednesday are not safe from the parody of the Wayans.
The movie boasts a screenplay by stars Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans, along with Keenen Ivory Wayans, the franchise’s original director, Craig Wayans, a co-writer on Scary Movie 2, and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House movies).
Scary Movie (2026) opens only in theatres on Friday, June 5, 2026.
What is the Scary Movie franchise about?
The Scary Movie franchise is about fun – fun for the audience, and fun at the expense of the horror-movie genre.
The first two films, Scary Movie (2000) and Scary Movie 2, are directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans (In Living Color), and co-written by his starring cast (and siblings) Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans.
Anna Faris’ Cindy Campbell and Regina Hall’s Brenda Meeks are the mainstays of the parody franchise. Their characters appear in the first four Scary Movie films. And along with Shawn Wayans’ Ray and Marlon Wayans’ Shorty, they return for Scary Movie (2026).
Availability of titles is subject to change.
